The wait is almost over! The biggest event, by far, of the Manchester Whisky Calendar is upon us. For one day only you will have the opportunity to come along and taste your way around Scotland, Japan, Ireland, the USA and even India! You will be accompanied on your voyage of discovery by many of the great and the good of the whisky-making industry. Distillery managers, Brand Ambassadors, and the like will be on hand to guide you through the huge range of whiskies on show. From the soft and gentle Glenlivet and Auchentoshan, to the full and rich Macallan, all the way to the peaty and intense Laphroaig and everything inbetween!

A few of the exhibitors confirmed so far…

Dalwhinnie, Cragganmore, Caol Ila, Talisker, Lagavulin, Ardmore, Macallan, Laphroaig, Highland Park, Balvenie, Glenfiddich, Bowmore, Auchentoshan, Suntory, Amrut, Gordon & Macphail, Cooley, Four Roses, Jameson, Glenlivet, Aberlour, Berry Brothers, Benromach

For those seeking an even greater experience, there will be masterclasses throughout the day, where some of the best minds in whisky will present very special tastings to small groups. These cost an additional, yet measly, £5 and are worth every penny given the opportunity they represent. Details on how to book the masterclasses are below.

All in all, if whisky is your thing – and even if it isn’t – this is going to be right up your alley. The ticket price of £16 includes entrance to the main event, all your drams for the day and a free whisky tasting glass (worth around £4) on entrance to the event.

Please note: Children are not permitted into the event and we are strong advocates of responsible drinking.

For more information on the masterclasses, please see below.

Masterclass 1 - SOLD OUT!!

12.30 - 13.45

Diageo – A Tale of 3 Distilleries

Colin Dunn, long time friend of The Whisky Lounge and UK Whisky Ambassador for Diageo, presents a very special tasting of whiskies from three distilleries – Caol Ila, Talisker and Lagavulin. He will guide you through the differences between them and entertain you along the way. One for those who like their whiskies BIG!

Masterclass 2 - SOLD OUT !!
14.00 - 15.15

Cooley – Independent Ireland

Cooley is now the only independent distillery in Ireland and does things quite differently to the two other great whiskies. Stephen Teeling, UK Ambassador for Cooley, presents a tasting of some of their single malts, including the only Irish peated whisk(e)y, Connemarra. A very diverse tasting that is suitable for most tastes.

Masterclass 3 - SOLD OUT !!
15.30 - 16.45

Arran – Island Life

The distillery on Arran has only been in existence for around 15 years, yet they have made lots of friends and fans across the world. The whiskies are typically mellow, sweet and very complex and have tasted astoundingly well during Whisky Lounge tastings over the past year or two. Céline Têtu – a UK Ambassador for Arran – presents a fab tasting of some of their latest and greatest.

Masterclass 4 - SOLD OUT !!

16.15-17.30

Ardmore – ‘Are You Sure It’s a Speyside?’

Most people associate the peatier whiskies with the isle of Islay and perhaps one or two of the other islands. Ardmore is from the region that arguably produces the most rich and smooth whiskies, yet is medium-peated. Find out why and taste your way through a great line-up of whiskies from this cult distillery – and we’re especially lucky to have Distillery Manager, Alistair Longwell down to present this one! Should be a cracker!

Masterclass 5 - SOLD OUT !!
16.15 - 17.30
Japan - Whisky Whispers From the East

Japanese whisky is now firmly established on the world whisky map. It has performed amazingly at International competitions and has won numerous awards and medals at most spirit awards. Tom Jones - Morrison Bowmore’s UK Brand Ambassador (not the Welsh singer!) - presents a tasting of some of Suntory’s fine wares whilst introducing you to how things are done in Japan. Highly recommended.
